My Law Practice

Born and raised in Edmonton, I am a civil litigation lawyer with over 10 years of experience, including representing plaintiffs in personal injury claims. I also have considerable experience on the defence side of personal injury files in private practice and as municipal in-house counsel.

During my career, I have attended countless questionings for discovery, mediations, and judicial dispute resolutions, as well as many court appearances, having appeared before all levels of Court in Alberta. As a creative problem solver, I use that knowledge to develop legal strategies to consider how the other side thinks and is likely to view a claim while focusing on what solutions will meet my client’s long-term needs. My experience as a defence lawyer has given me a unique perspective and understanding of personal injury law.

I have always been drawn to helping people, which led me to join CAM LLP as a plaintiffs-only personal injury lawyer in July 2024. I find notion of helping injured people get back on track very rewarding and was delighted to join a firm that has an exceptional reputation as a team of smart, passionate lawyers who work to solve problems in the way that best suits their clients needs. Sometimes, that means negotiating or representing a client in a mediation; sometimes, that means going to court to get a just result. I have many years of experience negotiating a wide variety of legal issues and settlements, including complex personal injury matters.

I’m a skilled litigation lawyer and am very comfortable in the courtroom. If taking a client’s case to court is the best or most efficient way to get the job done, I will not hesitate to do so. However, I’m also mindful that court can take its toll on clients in terms of additional stress and the time it takes to get a judicial result. So, if there are alternatives, I will help my clients decide what approach best suits their needs.

I have experience in the following areas:

  • Injury claims arising from motor vehicle accidents (vehicle and pedestrian), slip and falls, and trip and falls
  • Claims arising from fatal injuries
  • Insolvency litigation
  • Complex contract disputes
  • Environmental claims

Outside the Office

  • Outside of work, I’m just like many of you. I’m a parent and care deeply about making our community an exceptional place to live.
  • I enjoy running, cross-country skiing, and, most of all, spending time with my husband and two young daughters at the lake.

Most people are unfamiliar with the injury claims process. When you meet with me, it is my priority to make you feel comfortable and heard. I am here to help you understand the process so that you can make informed decisions.

I will carefully listen to your story about how you were injured and what has happened to you since your injury. From there, I will ask you questions to fill in any details I need to assess your case and determine what you need regarding immediate care and rehabilitation resources. Then, I will outline your case’s legal issues and options and explain the personal injury claim process.

Generally, that first contact leads to a follow-up meeting where we meet face-to-face (or by Zoom if that is more convenient for you). At that meeting, I will cover the basics that usually arise in these situations in more detail so that you can decide whether you want to hire me. This session typically includes explaining things like:

  • How long a claim takes and the factors involved.
  • What goes into assessing the amount of compensation that may be appropriate and when that assessment should be made.
  • What our firm can do for you and what happens while this is going on.
  • The costs involved and how our firm gets paid.

Every case is different. However, some common things are helpful to know. First, claims involving severe injuries take longer to resolve, and the compensation amount will not be immediately clear. This is because the impact of your injuries can only be fully assessed once you have plateaued in your recovery process. During this time, I will monitor your progress to ensure you are getting the medical attention and services you need to support your recovery. Once we can confirm that your injury has either resolved or is not going to get any better, we can start thinking about the appropriate compensation level and what you will need for the future. We’ll keep you informed, and you will be involved in any decisions regarding settlement offers and negotiations.

Most personal injury lawyers, including the lawyers at our firm, work on contingency. That means you don’t pay any money upfront, and our firm covers the costs of things like starting a claim and expert reports needed to prove your claim. I welcome any questions you may have, I’m here to walk you through the process every step of the way. And I will only get paid if and when you get paid.
