CAM LLP is delighted to congratulate Bill Hendsbee, K.C., on his recent appointment to the Alberta Court of Justice

May 27 2024

We are very proud to share that our partner, Bill Hendsbee, K.C., was appointed a Justice of the Alberta Court of Justice on May 23, 2024.

Bill has been a valued member of Cummings Andrews Mackay LLP since joining us in 1996. In addition to the exceptional work he has done for our clients throughout his career, Bill consistently looked for ways to engage in serving the legal profession for the greater good and the benefit of Albertans. He was a Bencher with the Law Society of Alberta from 2018-2024 and most recently served as LSA President during the 2023-24 term. In addition, Bill has served as the President of the Edmonton Bar Association and as the President of the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association (ACTLA) while also volunteering his time and expertise to speak at seminars for the Legal Education Society of Alberta and ACTLA.

Soon-to-be Justice Hendsbee recognizes the broad impact of legal disputes on people and the importance of supporting associations and initiatives that contribute to healthy communities. From involvement in organizations that catered to the needs of our clients that extended beyond legal advice and representation to volunteering his time to sporting initiatives that foster positive values in young people and support community development as a whole, Bill Hendsbee has been an enthusiastic and active participant.

All this to say, Bill has always been a champion of developing a robust legal profession, advancing access to justice in our province, and generally making our community a great place to live. Integrity, compassion, expertise and a gift for putting people at ease (clients, colleagues and opposing counsel alike), we will miss his presence at our firm. However, we are confident that the people of Alberta have gained an excellent addition to our judicial system. Congratulations and our very best wishes, Bill!

Bill Hendsbee has been appointed to the Edmonton region and will begin serving the people of Alberta in his new capacity on July 2, 2024. He will continue to practice at our firm until June 30, 2024.
